pharynx

Term: pharynx (throat)

Origin: Anc Greek φάγημα/fagima (=food) + άγαγον/agagon(carry) > φάγον (Homer) simple past  β΄ of verb εσθίω/esthio(=eat). According to some dictionaries maybe there is  a relation to ancient word φάρανξ/pharanx(-chasm, cleft) as pharynx is an about 12.5 cm  musculomembranous body passage.

Definition:
The pharynx is a portion of both the respiratory tract and the digestive system  that extends from the mouth and nasal cavities to the larynx and esophagus.
