Karl Landsteiner

 Coined: in 1921 by the American biologist of Austrian origin, Karl Landsteiner (1868 – June 26, 1943). In 1930, Landsteiner received the Nobel Prize for Medicine for his work on differentiating the blood groups

Definition:
A hapten is a small molecule that can stimulate an strong immune response only when it is in combination with a larger molecule such as a protein. Functionally , a hapten is virtually the equivalent of en epitope.
