Definition
Emphysema is a progressive disease of the lungs caused by damage of the alveolar walls along with the capillary blood vessels that run within them. The primarily result of disease is shortness of breath and reduction of oxygen in lungs. cigarette smoking is considered the most common cause of emphysema.
