Coined/History 
Angiostatin was observed initially in 1994 as an angiogenesis inhibitor in serum and urine of mice bearing a Lewis lung carcinoma. The same research group  reffered that plasminogen yields distinct angiostatins which have been termed angiostatin -1 and angiostatin-2.

Definition
An endogenous protein that inhibits endothelial proliferation and was identified as an 38 kDa  internal fragment of plasminogen.
