The element was discovered in 1797 by French chemist Nicolas .L. Vauqkelin(1763-1797) in the mineral corocoite (Siberian red lead) and named because of its many different colors.
Chromium in a chemical element with atomic number 24 and atomic mass 51.9961. It is characterized by corrosion resistance and hardness and it is used to harden steel.
