ανθρ/anthr- is for ανδρ-/an(δ)r, a strenghtened form of the stem ανερ-, of which the nom. is ανήρ (attic)(=a man) and -ωπος is from Gk. ωψ/ops, gen. ωπός/opos (=eye, face). In Mycenaean language, the most ancient written form of the Greek language that has been discovered (16th-11th cen BC) the word was identified as  a-to-ro-qo.
