Greek terms επί/epi(= upon, among) δήμος/demos( = people, district) + λόγος/logos( = study of, discourse)
Coined :
The Greek physician Hippocrates sometimes said to be the father of epidemiology as he was coined the terms endemic(for diseases usually found in some places but not in others) and epidemic (for disease that are seen at some times but not others). The term 'epidemiology' appears to have first been used to describe the study of epidemics in 1802 by the Spanish physician Villalba in Epidemiología Española.
Definition:
Epidemiology is the study of patterns of health and illness and associated factors at the population level.
