(=fat, grease) from verb λείβω/livo (=grease)


Definition : organic compound insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents which involve fats , oils, waxes, sterols cholesterol and triglycerides. Lipids are essential structural component of living cells, helping to energy storage and to cell signalling.
