aerobe and aerobic (adj)

Term: aerobe

Origin: Anc Greek αήρ/aer(=air) +βίος/vios(=life)

Coined: In 1863 by French scientist Louis Pasteur .

Definition :
Any microorganism that can live and grow only in the presence of free oxygen. At the same time of period the term in human physiology, the terms aerobic and anaerobic were used in relation to how the body obtained energy.
