Origin: Anc Greek ημι-/hemi(=half) + πληγή/plege(=a stroke, a wound , a calamity) --> half stroke
> πλήττω/pleto(=to stroke)

Definition: Total paralysis occuring  in one side of the body  affecting arm, trunk and leg usually as a result  of a brain damage.
