υπέρ/hyper(=prefix meaning something is excessive, above normal)  

+(-πλασία)/(-plasia)(= combining form denoting formation) 
> πλάσσω/plasso(=create)

Definition: The enlargement or overgrowth of an organ or tissue due to abnormal proliferation of cells.  It should be distinguished from hypertrophy , in which the cells increase in size.
