Coined
The designation of "gastroenterology" was coined in 1896 by John Hemmeter.
 Hammeter, was the first clinician to attempt the construction of an instrument with which to obtain duodenal contents and he recovered such contents in 1897. 

Definition:
Gastrenterlogy is the branch of medicine which is about the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the digestive system (stomach, intestines, and associated organs).
