δέρμα/derma(=skin) > δεσμά/desma(=bonds) because skin keeps the body tight > δέρω/dero(=to peel, to flay).
Coined/History
in 1847 by Gintrac who based on the obvious cutaneous manifestations of the vascular and fibrotic changes that characterize the disease.
Definition
Scleroderma refers to a heterogeneous group of autoimmune disorders disease that causes mainly inflammation and thickening of the skin. Other symptoms includes spontaneous scarring and  blood vessel disease,
