Coined/History
The term was coined in 1854 by German physician Rudolf Virchow(1821-1905) who claimed that a thrombus differs from an ordinary clot because has a peculiar ribbed appearance.

Definition
Thrombosis is the formation of blood clot inside a blood vessel.
