angiopoiesis

Term: angiopoiesis
Literally meaning: “ making vessels”
Origin: Anc Greek
αγγείο/aggio (=vessel, receptacle) > άγγος/aggos(=tube)
+ ποίησις/poiesis(making)  < ποι/ poio(=make)
Coined/History
The term was coined in 1999 by Pardanaud and Dieterlen-Lievre in order to extent the terminology of hematopoiesis. The new term is referred to the commitment of mesoderm to angioblasts, without including in the notion the further behavior of these progenitor cells.
