Coined/History
In November 0f 1704 the French Mathematician Pierre
Varignon (1654-1722), described a new instrument for measuring the air
pressure which named “manometer” because it was capable to measure scarcity of
a gas: “……et
l’appelle manomètre, c’est-à-dire mesure de la raréfaction”. . Later
this instrument was used to measure liquids.
Definition
A manometer is a device to measure pressure in a fluid
or a gas. Kinds of manometers are
sphygnomanometer and areaneroid manometer.
