Coined/History

The term was coined by the Greek physician Hippocrates (460BC-370BC) meaning "fox disease" because  when foxes are afflicted with "mange". a skin disease their hair begins to fail away.  In 20 A.D. Cornelius Celsus was the first to give a description of the "alopecia areata and alopecia totalis"


Definition

It is medical condition which is characterized by hair loss usually with small bald patches . Alopecia areata is considered  to be an autoimmune disease against hair follicles.
