+σώμα/soma(=body)>> σύμα/sima(=corpse). Homer (9th cen) referred to word "σώμα" always with the meaning of the corpse.
Coined.History
The name derived from its corkscrew-like motion. The first time that a trypanosoma infection was found in man was by Forde in the Gambia in 1901.
Definition
Trypanosoma is a parasitc flagellate protozoan which infects many hosts and cause various diseases such as African trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness) by Trypanosoma brucei.
