Coined/History
The insolubility of elastin made its isolation
difficult until early 1970’s when the soluble precursor of this matrix
component, tropoelastin , was identified.
Definition
Elastin is, along with collagen, the main protein of
connective tissue that in humans is encoded by ELN gene and it is found mainly in skin, intestines, tendons, blood
vessels, lung and heart.
