Origin: Anc Greek
βιο-/vio(bio-, combining form for “life”) > βία/via(=rush)
+ηθική-/ethiki (=the moral principles)>ήθος/ethos(=character,  behavior)







The term was introduced in 1926 by  protestant theologian Fritz Jahr (1895-1953)

Bioethics is the scientific branch which deals with ethical and moral issues of new medical and biotechnological discoveries like cloning mammals or genetic therapies.
