Origin:  Anc Greek αυτo/auto(=self, one's own ) + σώμα/soma(=body)

Coined: in 1906 by zoologist Thomas Harrison Montgomery (1873-1912) 
Definition:
An autosome is a non–sex-determining chromosome found in both sexes eg in humans, there are 22 pairs of autosomes 
Autosomal: Pertaining to a chromosome that is not a sex chromosome
