Term: cataract
Origin: Anc Greek καταρράκτης/cataractis(=waterfall) >
κατά/cata(=down)+ ράσω>ροή/roe(=running of water) à pour down
Coined: the term was coined in modern ophthalmology metaphorically because the whiteness is supposed to be reminiscent of the churned-up water of a cataract.
Definition:
Eye disease that involves the opacity of the natural lens of the eye or in its envelope causing impairment of vision
