Term: physiology
Origin: Anc Greek φύσις/ physis(=nature) + -λογία /-logia(=study of).
Coined: by French phycisian Jean François Fernel (Fernelius) (1497–1558) in order to describe the study of the body's function. In 1929, American physiologist W. B. Cannon (1871 –1945) coined the term homeostasis to describe one of the most basic concerns of physiology.
