Coined: In 1619 Varandaeus in his treatise on gynecology, used first time the term of eclampsia based upon the flashing lights or spots before the eyes of pregnant women with pre-eclampsia.
Definition
A complication of pregnancy that is characterized by hypertension and significant amounts of protein in the urine.
