Literally meaning: “yellow urine”

Origin: Anc Greek
ξανθός/xanthos(=golden, yellow, blond)
+ oύρον/ouron(=urine) < ορός/oros <o+ροή (=flow)

Coined/History
In 1877 by English surgeon and dermatologist Erasmus Wilson (1809-1884) and initially applied the term to any xanthoma (yellowish nodules).

Definition
Xanthinuria is an inherited metabolic disorder in which there is deficiency of an enzyme (xanthine dehydrogenase)  needed to process purine base xanthine.  During this process the xanthine dehydrogenase, degrates  hypoxanthine and xanthine to uric acid.
