Coined/History
Lysine was isolated in 1889 by German dentist Heinrich Drechsel who named it
“lysatin” and later (1891) “lysine”
Definition
Lysine is a basic essential amino acid very important for proper growth. It plays an important role for
calcium absorption, formation of collagen and carnitine (a nutrient responsible
for fatty acids conversion into energy). Foods rich in lysine are meat ,
cheese, nuts, eggs, soybeans and spirulina.
