Origin: Anc Greek αγγείον/agion(=vessel, receptacle)  + -ωμα/oma (=suffix meaning state or condition ) 

Coined: in 1817 by chemists Pierre-Joseph Pelletier (1788-1842) and Joseph Bienaimé Caventou (1795-1877) who used mild solvents to successfully isolate many important biologically active plant products as chlorophyll, caffeine, strychnine, colchicine, quinine and veratrine.

Definition:
A swelling or resulting from proliferation of the cells of the vascular or lymphatic vessel walls.
