Definition
Thyrotoxocosis is a metabolic abnormality caused by elevation of thyroid hormone in serum because of thyroid gland hyperactivity. Thyrotoxicosis is similar but not synonymous to hyperthyroidism as it can be caused by ingestion of exogenous thyroid hormones.
