Literally meaning: "progenitor of blast"

Coined/History
The term was coined by Christian Wilhelm Braune (1831-1892) who studied of the embryonic origins of different types of tissues.  

Definition
Angioblast is any precursor cell in embryonic tissue (mesenchymal) which is differentiated to vascular cell.
